This notice contains information for the group of server updates (or dist) occurring May 09, 2011 through May 11, 2011 in all datacenters. Until that time, all of the information included in this document is subject to change.
This document provides information about the dist for all VPS and MPS products, including the following products and platforms:
- Linux VPS and MPS (Linux VPS/MPS or Linux)
- FreeBSD VPS and MPS version three (VPS/MPS v3 or v3)
Most updates include the name of the software or service being updated, the new version (if applicable), the reasons for the update, and a Changelog or Readme of the changes (if available).
Action Needed
Most VPS and MPS updates do not require action by customers to receive the full benefits of the update. Some updates may require action by customers to receive all benefits of the update, but usually this action is optional, such as updating to the latest version of software. Updates for each platform in this document are grouped together according to any (optional) action needed or no action needed, with those updates possibly requiring action listed first.

Linux VPS/MPS
The following updates will be made to the Linux VPS/MPS platform. Important services to be restarted: The following services will be restarted by Verio as part of the update:
Possible Action Needed
The following Linux VPS/MPS updates may require additional attention or action to take advantage of the full benefits of the update. Any possible actions are listed at the end of the individual update information.
- Mysql-5.5.9
- MySQL 5.5.9 will now be available as a vinstall.
To install MySQL 5.5.9, connect to your server through SSH and execute the following from the command prompt:
# vinstall mysql5.5
- PHP-5.3.5
- PHP 5.3.5 will now be available as a vinstall.
To install PHP 5.3.5, connect to your server through SSH and execute the following from the command prompt:
# vinstall php5.3
- phpPgAdmin-5.0.2
- The phpPgAdmin vinstall will be upgraded to version 5.0.2.
To upgrade existing installations of phpPgAdmin, connect to your server through SSH and execute the following from the command prompt:
# vinstall phppgadmin
- Mailman-2.1.14
- Mailman will be upgraded to version 2.1.14. This upgrade also addresses several security issues. To upgrade existing installations of Mailman, connect to your server through SSH and execute the following from the command prompt:
# vinstall mailman
No Action Needed
The following Linux VPS/MPS updates do not require action by customers to take advantage of the full benefits of the update. Some services may be rebooted as part of the update.
- Apache-2.0.64
- Apache will be upgraded to version 2.0.64.
- ntp 4.2.6p3-2
- ntp will be upgraded to version 4.2.6p3 to address security issues.
- Python-2.5.5/Mailman
- Python version 2.5.5 will be included with the vinstall of Mailman.
- OpenSSH-5.8p1
- OpenSSH will be upgraded to version 5.8p1.
FreeBSD VPS/MPS v3
The following updates will be made to the FreeBSD VPS/MPS v3 platform.

In addition, the p5-DBD-mysql perl module will be updated for this MySQL version.
- MySQL-5.1.55
- The vinstall for MySQL5.1 will be upgraded to version 5.1.55.
To upgrade existing installations of MySQL 5.1.x, connect to your server through SSH and execute the following from the command prompt:
# vinstall mysql5.1
In addition, the p5-DBD-mysql perl module will be updated for this MySQL version.
- MySQL-5.0.92
- The vinstall for MySQL5.0 will be upgraded to version 5.0.92.
To upgrade existing installations of MySQL 5.0.x, connect to your server through SSH and execute the following from the command prompt:
# vinstall mysql5.0
In addition, the p5-DBD-mysql perl module will be updated for this MySQL version.
- PHP-5.3.5
- PHP 5.3.5 will now be available as a vinstall.
To install PHP 5.3.5, connect to your server through SSH and execute the following from the command prompt:
# vinstall php5.3
- phpPgAdmin-5.0.2
- The vinstall for phpPgAdmin will be upgraded to version 5.0.2.
To upgrade existing installations of phpPgAdmin, connect to your server through SSH and execute the following from the command prompt:
# vinstall phppgadmin
No Action Needed
The following VPS/MPS v3 updates do not require action by customers to take advantage of the full benefits of the update. Some services may be rebooted as part of the update.
- Apache 2.2.17
- Apache will be upgraded to version 2.2.17.
- ntp 4.2.6p3
- ntp will be upgraded to version 4.2.6p3 to address security issues.
